Shimano Tiagra Hubs HB-4500 review

Shimano's entry-level hubs have always impressed us with the ease with which they can be serviced. With the benefit of angular contact bearings they now provide radial and lateral support for greater durability of the moving parts.

Our review
Well finished and user-serviceable, these are as solid as they come

Shimano's entry-level hubs have always impressed us with the ease with which they can be serviced. With the benefit of angular contact bearings they now provide radial and lateral support for greater durability of the moving parts, plus Shimano continue to use the tried and trusted Labyrinth seals to ensure that the bearings stay free of contaminating moisture. The skewers have lightweight aluminium levers and the action of opening and closing the mechanism is both smooth and positive. In addition to the stock-in-trade 32-hole version there's a 36-hole hub for heavy riders and those who want strong wheels at the expense of a few grams.
