Our review
An adequate starter kit that covers most work on both old and modern bikes, but durability isn’t great

Emphasis is on quantity rather than quality with the Essential Bike Tool Kit but strength and quality is good enough for the occasional use home mechanic.

You get 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10mm Allen keys, 8, 10, 14 and 15mm spanners, old-style headset spanners, cone spanners, crank and bottom bracket removal tools (old and new style), cassette removal tools, a decent multi-size spoke nipple tool, Phillips and flat head screwdrivers, a chain tool and tyre levers.

Like a lot of the cheaper tool boxes we’ve tested, tool removal and replacement is fiddly at times so we imagine a lot of this stuff will soon end up in a one of those big tin tool boxes unless you’re very tidy-minded.

However, the neat freaks will appreciate the compact qualities of the slotted interior of the box, and you do get almost everything you need here for all but headset removal and replacement, at an excellent price. Frequent home mechanics should spend more for better quality, and buy just what they need.
