Fox Dropframe helmet review

Fox's Dropframe is one of a new breed of helmets that straddles the open/full-face divide, with loads of coverage around the back of the head, but no chin guard.

Fox has dropped the rim down in front and around the ears for extra protection. It hasn’t covered the ears though, and it’s this slightly unusual look that seems to divide opinion when it comes to the Dropframe’s design.

While there’s no MIPS liner, Fox has used a dual-density EPS shell to better handle impacts. It also lacks a retention cradle. Instead, there are two different pad thicknesses to tailor the fit, which works well enough.

I never missed being able to tweak things with an adjuster dial, and found the fit to be spot-on, but that may not be the case for everyone. The padding is plentiful and soft enough to create a plush fit.

There’s decent airflow across the top of your head too. Initially, you do notice the wind passing your ears, but you get used to it.

While the Dropframe isn’t light compared to standard open-face helmets, at 478g (medium), the weight isn’t bad considering the coverage on offer and, as it’s so well distributed, the lid never feels top-heavy.

The fixed peak doesn’t disturb your view, but I’d prefer it to move upwards for goggle stowage.
