The KASK Rex helmet is one of the priciest trail lids out there at the moment and up against some seriously stiff competition. Its styling might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and the fit may not be either.
The padding is pretty comfy and so is the easy-to-adjust cradle, which not only cinches up around the head but can be adjusted vertically to change the pitch of the helmet. But when we cranked up the small indexed dial to get things feeling more secure, a lot of side-to-side movement remained, even though the lid was now tight at the front and back.
The goggle retention strap at the rear and neatly integrated action cam mount on the top are nice touches
Fit is subjective, though, and the Rex may suit those with rounder noggins better.
The long peak offers some protection from rain and sun, and can be set either up or down. In the higher position you can perch goggles up on the front of the lid. When down, we found the peak was just a little too low and easy to see while riding, so we left it up for the most part.
While the 20 vents combine with internal channelling to do a reasonable job of dumping heat, the pads, although comfortable, are quite thick so they absorb a fair bit of sweat when you’re working hard.
At 323g (medium) the Rex is a decent weight considering the amount of protection, and the goggle retention strap at the rear and neatly integrated action cam mount on the top are nice touches.
