Our review
Coming in under £30 this is a solid choice for those who are just starting off on the bike

Pros:

Price, looks

Cons:

Rear dial

One of our favourite helmets if your budget is limited has to be the Van Rysel RoadR 500 from Decathlon, which is just £29.99 / $49.99.

Formerly bearing the B’Twin name, this is an outstanding value-packed helmet, even if the dial-retention system does feel a little on the crude side.

It looks more expensive than most sub-£30 helmets, though, and is available in three colours; this Fluro Lime Yellow as well as Black, and White.

It has a race-inspired shell although it’s not as compact as Decathlon’s top-notch Van Rysel Aerofit 900 lid that’ll cost you a tenner more.

Even the rear section of the 14-vented shell is in-moulded, which helps prevent day-to-day wear. The vents themselves do a satisfactory job of cooling, considering there’s no inner channelling. And while there are no inner pads on the rear, you don’t notice this at all when you’re riding.

If you’re just starting out on the bike and don’t want to break the bank, it’s a great choice.

Available in medium (55–59cm) and large (59–62cm).
