Crank Brothers Power Alloy Pump review

Crank Brothers Power Alloy Pump review

Most pumps will do high pressure (road tyres) or high volume (mountain bike tyres), but this aluminium-bodied mini pump does both, with a dial at the bottom of the pump to change between the two

Our review
Very versatile for a mini pump, doing 120psi road tyres as well as fat off-road treads

Most pumps will do high pressure (road tyres) or high volume (mountain bike tyres), but this aluminium-bodied mini pump does both, with a dial at the bottom to change between the two.

The pump head is T-shaped, with Presta one side, Schrader the other, and you rotate it to lock it onto the valve. There's also an analogue gauge, which reads to 160psi. The pump is rated to 130psi, and with effort we got a road tyre to 120psi.

The chunky plastic pump head cover can be zip-tied to your frame to fix the Power Alloy Pump there, and it protects the pump head even if you keep it in a saddlebag or Camelbak pump port. On the first sample we had, the (uncovered) pump head somehow unscrewed and fell off in the middle of a forest, but fortunately this kind of thing is covered by warranty, and the replacement is going strong.

There are pumps that do one job better - such as a Zéfal HPX for road use. But if you want a mini pump that's suitable for any tyres, this is probably your best option. You get a free patch kit too.
