Topeak Micro Rocket AL review

Topeak Micro Rocket AL review

If small is beautiful, this is the most beautiful pump you'll see. It's only 160mm long, and at 65g is the lightest I've seen. There's a carbon version too, which claims to be ten grams lighter but isn't,and is of interest only if you really like carbon.

Our review
Given how many good, if slightly larger, pumps you can get for the same money, you can't help thinking the Micro Rocket is going to lose out.

If small is beautiful, this is the most beautiful pump you'll see. It's only 160mm long, bless it, and at 65g is the lightest I've seen. There's a £29.99 dearer carbon version too, which claims to be ten grams lighter but isn't, and as such is of interest only if you really like the look of carbon. I put it to work inflating a 700x23c road tyre, and a mere 400 (that's not a typo) strokes later had a usable 90psi in the tyre, and a very sore palm. Topeak claim it can manage 160psi, but that's like claiming you can empty a bath with a teaspoon.

It's hard to see who'd want this pump. People that habitually carry a pump will have, or can buy, a better one, and those that fanatically watch the grams are better off with a CO2 inflator as a last resort. Given how many good, if slightly larger, pumps you can get for the same money, you can't help thinking the Micro Rocket is going to lose out.
