If you’re regularly stripping and rebuilding bikes, a kit like this is a good long-term investment

The Portable Race/Ride Kit is unique in that it’s aimed at race mechanics, or anyone else who needs to take tools with them.

We’re not going to pity the race mechanic who has to lug 7kg of tools around in this purpose-built pack, because it’s enough to make you the envy of most race crews.

Almost everything except a workstand and a wheel truing jig is here – all you could need for fast repairs to a bike made in the past decade, plus some bits you’ll probably never need.

Part of the attraction of a kit like this is its sheer desirability: the backpack opens almost flat, with a hard base and a sturdy rod-based framework, as well as enough elasticated compartments to securely retain all the tools, plus the lube and grease that’s included. You can even hang it on a wall in your home workshop.

The £500 price tag seems pretty high, until you consider that if you know what you’re doing you could save that in workshop fees.
