The BG Expert is a consistently good, well-fitting bike shoe

The BG Expert is the sleeping giant of the Specialized mountain bike shoe lineup. It’s essentially the same as the top-of-the-line BG Pro, but with three Velcro straps where the Pro has a micro buckle.

The micromatrix synthetic leather upper has a few large nylon mesh vents at the toe area, which allow good venting and also let any water that gets in evaporate fairly quickly.

The full-length carbon fibre midsole is the key with this shoe, which has a good covering of rubber to help you find traction if you have to walk or miss a pedal.

We stomped in the Experts and the shoes never missed a beat and, providing you look after the upper, the sole will last for ages.

Fit-wise these dirt dogs will suit most oblong feet as they’re quite wide and the heel it is also pretty good (although not quite to Sidi standards). All in all, a really good shoe for all-round riding.
