Our review
Excellent handling mid-weight aero wheels at an affordable price

The Jet 5 Express is a new, affordable aero wheel based on HED’s proven semi-carbon Jet architecture but using the latest broad-rim aerodynamics.

They’re on the expensive side for an alloy/ carbon hybrid, but a unidirectional carbon shroud keeps weight down to 1,708g. That’s significantly lighter than SRAM’s S60 but not as light as the more expensive Giant SLR1 and Shimano Dura Ace C50.

The shallow track demands careful pad setup, but braking is more predictable than on full carbon rims, especially in the wet. Pick-up speed from the Sonic hubs is average, but they’re well proven in reliability terms and the wheels stayed stiff and strong during extended use.

HED’s SCT (Stability Control Technology) uses a 23mm outer edge rim on a 26mm body to create an impressively crosswind and steering-friendly shape, while cutting drag noticeably on these Kona-winning wheels.
