An understated jacket with stealth good looks, the Mavic Mistral Trail has turned out to be, quite simply, very wearable.
It’s made from Gore-Tex Windstopper Infinium, a material that’s designed to give a high level of wind protection with maximum breathability, and it has a DWR coating to make it resistant to light rain by repelling moisture and dirt, and prevent wetting out.
I’ve been using it on autumn rides when damp permeates the air and for those ‘will it, won’t it?’ days with a strong chance of showers, during which its kept me dry without overheating.
It’s very comfortable and feels more like I'm wearing a substantial jersey than a traditional jacket. The cut is good – relaxed without being baggy.
It incorporates breathable stretch panels under the arms, and these, combined with the articulated sleeve shaping, give exceptional movement through the shoulders without pulling the body of the jacket up.
The shaped cuffs work well with gloves and, thanks to the long sleeves, drop perfectly over the back of the hand.
Designed to fit neatly under a helmet, the hood sits well, even without adjustment. It features a small brim too.
My only quibble is that, despite dropping lower at the back hem, the jacket could do with a tad more coverage for taller riders.
