Salsa's ‘Tour Divide-inspired drop bar bike’, the Cutthroat, has been designed from the ground up for 2020, with a new fork, updated frame geometry and a host of other refinements to this high-end bike that's designed for self-supported, ultra-endurance, mixed-surface racing.

The new Cutthroat range consists of four models, from the top specced GRX 810 Di2 version at £5,800, down to the Apex 1 build for £2,850. There’s also a frameset only option priced at £2,150.

2020 Salsa Cutthroat key specs

  • Redesigned carbon frame and fork
  • New geometry with 69-degree head tube angle and longer wheelbase
  • Boost front and rear hub spacing
  • Frameset (inc fork, headset, seatpost collar and axles) weighs 2.32kg / 5lbs 2oz
  • 1x and 2x compatible
  • Maximum tyre clearance of 29 x 2.4in
  • 27.2mm seatpost
  • BB92 press-fit bottom bracket
  • New 52cm size now available

Salsa says the Cutthroat’s new carbon Boost-hub fork is 32 per cent more compliant than the last incarnation. It’s also backwards compatible, so will fit earlier Cutthroat frames, but there’s no word on whether Salsa will sell the fork separately yet.

Each fork leg has abrasion-resistant plates in key high-wear areas and a set of Three-Pack mounts. It’s also compatible with Salsa’s Down Under Front Rack.

The carbon frame’s Class 5 Vibration Reduction System should take the sting out of rough surfaces to help give a smoother ride.

While we don't have the full dimensions of the Cutthroat’s redesigned frame yet, we do know that the head tube angle gets a little slacker at 69 degrees and the wheelbase is longer than previous versions. The bikes will be available in 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60cm sizes.

Salsa is releasing a direct-mount frame bag specifically designed to fit each size of the Cutthroat, which is constructed from waterproof fabrics and utilises EXP Series thumb screws for tool-free attachment.
