Q. Is the new Fox 20mm axle system on the 2008 36 forks any good? It looks complicated and likely to come loose.

A: That's what we thought at first too, and they took a while to snug up tight the first time we used them. Since then we've hammered them locally and taken them over the Alps to the kit-murdering carnival of the Mega Avalanche, and our doubt has proved to be totally unfounded.

The whole set up - a cam on each leg clamp and a popout winding lever for the 20mm axle - has stayed totally rock solid, with no creak, flex, rattle or worry, however hard we've hammered them.

They still whip in or out smoothly and quickly too, despite being put through some particularly wet, gritty local riding. So don't be worried by the looks, as it seems Fox are onto a winner for 2008.
