BikeRadar verdict

4.5 out of 5 stars

"Gobs of light so you'll be seen by drivers as well as annoying anyone riding behind you"

Thu 9 Oct 2008, 7:00 pm BSTBy

If you have a wheel sucker in your riding group, the type who never takes a turn at the front, always sitting at the back keeping a nice light spin going, then fit one of these.

A 0.5 watt main LED and two more traditional LEDs light up like a bulb in a microwave; nobody will want to ride behind you for fear of staining their eyes red! In our test it was a fraction under the claimed 60 hours of run time in flashing mode.

  • very visible, great battery life but waterproofing could be a little better

  • Brilliant light! I haven't had any problems with water to be honest. Can be found for less than a tenner in most online shops too :)

  • Superb light very pleased with it.

  • So good i have just bought another one can be seen for miles no problems with water ingress the flashing mode is awesome can't recommend it highly enough

    rammie

  • Excellent for daytime use too!

The Sheffield Police use these on their mountain bikes

  • Very bright, good solid fittings, easy operation, batteries included, bought at one of those one day cycle promotions for £9.99 - bargain.

  • Just bought another one of these lights for my "wet weather bike," it looks the same, but the flashing mode is now just a simple on off flash rather than an alternate pulse between the large and two Small LEDs.

Also on continuous mode, all three LEDs stay on rather than just the top one.

The packaging now says "UK compliant" can't find the packing from the old one, but may be they've changed the design to make it UK legal? Still an excellent light, but I think the flashing mode on the original was more noticeable

  • Just bought this light from ebay for £10 including postage. bargain.

this light is awesome.....blindingly bright. good side visibility as well.

going for a spin tonight to try it out.......

  • Ultra bright, super cheap (wiggle next day £10). I cable tied one of these to the back of my commuting helmet (Bell Triton). I look like a Christmas tree, but can be seen for a hell of distance. Put a strip of good quality red gaffer tape around the body to stop water ingress. This cheap fix works well, even in a heavy downpour.

  • This rear light is DA bomb when it comes to being seen at night, the only thing better now is the "Red Eye" add-on unit for the Exposure Diablo I recently acquired. But sadly that one doesnt flash even when the Diablo is flashing. Truely, this red light is disturbing to rearward riders...hehheh. I hate riding behind any of my pals when they have theirs on. Sealing issues though, I have to be careful not to let the bike lean over onto anything and have the light take the load, the red lens will pop off, and I dont mean dropping it against a post, but even just a weighty lean. Great light though for the bucks. We call 'em "Big Bombs" or "Boom-boom Flash".

  • Got two of these, super bright.

No problems with water in the old one but this years with the rubber button underneath plays up when it's wet.

  • Can't go wrong for the price and the light output, but i commute a fair way in all weathers so tend to test things to the full and found with lots of rain all the Smart rear lights i've had get water issues that mess up the electronics - the other week it kept turning itself off. But if you stick them on a radiator with the back off they do return to normal. Just need to make sure you run with a couple of lights and mount them away from wheel spray.

  • After a lifetime of cycling I am sick to death of poor quality bike lights. This one looks like it might be a refreshing change. Good firm bracket which can be clipped to a bag, fastened to the seat post or rear fork. very bright light and all round visibility for a very reasonable price. So far quite impressive. Just hoping it is as reliable as it seems.

  • A must-have safety feat. Keeps cars at distance. You even hear them slowing down. Combine with a 1200 lm Superfire torch and you are ready to go for a midnight ride.

  • same as rsp version, i have 2 for mountain biking work in all conditions even under water, battery life good and very bright

  • Shame looks good, nice and bright, fitted to my MTB seat tube OK (a tight fit).

However the rubber seal was no good and allowed water ingress (around the switch on the base) this caused it to stop working...
