This new Niteﬂux gets a great head start, but the rest of the system lets it down. The ‘forced air cooling’ of the ducted and ﬁnned headlamp certainly makes it look sci-ﬁ – and we never melted the lamp, even on warm summer nights.
The three LEDs combine for a good spread of light with enough distant detail to push the pace off-road. It’ll run full bore for two-and-a-half hours, while mid and low options take that up to between ﬁve and 10 hours.
The neoprene-wrapped battery cylinder at the end of the super-long lead is a real letdown, though. It’s awkward to site securely while still leaving easy access to the switch and the cable needs zipping to stop it ﬂapping everywhere. Its weight is an issue too.
