These new Cycleflex gloves from Outdoor Designs have a lot going for them. The palms are made from artificial leather, and the backs from Polartec’s Power Shield soft shell material.

This is breathable, windproof and water-repellent, the water beading and rolling off when it rains. There are grippy, silicone pads on the thumb, index and middle fingers, the cuffs are elasticated and have a Velcro closure, and there are reflective strips on the back of the two smaller fingers.

These are a top quality pair of cycling gloves that should be warm enough and waterproof enough for all but the most extreme conditions. They’re available in sizes S, M, L and XL.

Simon has been cycling for as long as he can remember, and more seriously since his time at university in the Dark Ages (the 1980s). This has taken in time trialling, duathlon and triathlon and he has toured extensively in Asia and Australasia, including riding solo 2900km from Cairns to Melbourne. He now mainly rides as a long-distance commuter and leisure/fitness rider. He has been testing bikes and working for Cycling Plus in various capacities for nearly 20 years.
