Our review
One of the best fabrics out there, and a well-designed jacket, but it comes at a hefty price

The third generation of the Alp-X is very light and not overburdened with features – kind of high-end minimalism. It’s still made primarily from Gore-Tex Paclite fabric, one of the best waterproof/breathable materials available.

There are stretchy panels on the arms to aid movement, and heavier fabric on the shoulders and sleeves to resist abrasion. The cut is close but not overly snug, and further tuning is available with concealed hem drawcords and Velcro cuffs.

The zip-off/stowaway hood is adjustable. A unique feature is the foldaway drop tail. The Alp-X is adequately long at the back, but if you need extra, it’s available – just beware of it hooking on the back of the saddle. A double overlapping Velcro storm flap over the zip also boosts weather protection.

There are no pit zips, but unzipping the front and letting the hem out a bit works pretty well. We continue to be impressed by Paclite’s top-notch water-repellent coating – it keeps water beading for longer than most, and copes better with washing.
