Pistard Milano jersey £114

Premium road riding top

BikeRadar score 4/5

At £114, the Milano jersey from new Italian brand Pistard is clearly aimed at the premium end of the cycle clothing market currently ruled by the UK’s Rapha, and it has a similarly classic look. The fit is more sportive than race – figure hugging but not skintight – and its simple styling, with a bold red stripe (representing the red cross of Milan, where Pistard are based) across the chest and matching stitching on the arms, masks some up-to-date features.

It’s made in Italy from a merino/polyester (38/62%) mix fabric called MerinoPerform, which is similar to the Sportwool used by the likes of Rapha and Shutt VR. This seems like a good compromise for jerseys – you get the breathability, warmth when wet, temperature regulation and cushy comfort of the wonder wool, combined with the stretchiness and durability of synthetics.

There’s silicone gripper on the hem at the rear to stop it riding up and a pair of pink elastic drawcords on the front to ensure a snug fit. There are three main rear pockets, with subtle reflective piping on the outer two, along with a zipped and waterproof valuables pocket  and a hidden zipped fifth pocket. A zip garage on the neck shows further attention to detail.

In use, the Milano is very comfortable, with a soft feel against the skin and a good level of sweat wicking. The waterproof pocket is very useful for storing your phone on those 'Will it? Won't it?' days, and the jersey seems very well made. But you’re definitely paying for its ‘made in Italy’ status. For your £110 you do get matching red arm warmers though, so you can extend its use to spring and autumn as well as summer.
