Altura Night Vision Overtrouser
BikeRadar verdict
"One for the city: high protection from a well made budget overtrouser"
Shopping partners
If your riding consists of shorter night-time and city commutes then a pair of lightweight windproof, waterproof overtrousers can prove invaluable.
Huge leg zips make getting the Night Visions on and off over shoes easy, and the side Velcro tabs help draw in the excess once you're in the saddle. Huge reflective flashes on the sides and back of the legs stand out well in cars' lights.
There's a handy pocket at the back but none at the front to reduce bulk and keep the trouser shape.
The waterproof fabric does get sweaty if you up the pace, but the Night Visions are intended for the easier city rides and they do a great job of getting you noticed in the dark and keeping your strides dry. All the seams are taped and the trousers are well made and should last a long time; well worth the £50 price.

I bought the womens version of these in a size 8 and they are the most uncomfotable and plasic waterproof trousers I have ever seen.
the fit is more akin to a size 6 on the waist and a 14 around the bum and thigh. I dont know what shape they think women are at Altura but they havnt got this right.
I would save the money and buy a pair of waterproof/goretex style trousersfrom an army surplus as they will be same quality and shape but much cheaper. You might even be lucky and have a properly constructed waistband instead of an elastic drawcord that is much too tight.
These are going straight back to the shop.

I bought these to go with my Night Vision jacket which has performed very well so I expected the trousers to be good too.
Let's start with the positives such as they are: The design of these is good, with long zips, velcro adjusters and good reflective panels. They're comfortable enough to wear (mens size XL, I am 6'2" and they are long enough) even though the seams do sometimes scratch the back of my knees if I'm wearing shorts underneath.
Unfortunately this is where the positives end. Put simply, they are not waterproof. They will keep light splashes off if you ride through a few puddles, but if it actually rains while you are wearing these, your legs will be soaked. I would expect, and indeed forgive a small amount of moisture build-up from sweat, but the material of these trousers is just not waterproof at all. It is particularly noticeable on the top of your thighs which soon become cold and clammy, soaking whatever you have on underneath. Very disappointing, I cannot recommend these at all.
