The Transitions are 3/4-length baggies from UK-based Polaris. The nylon outer shell feels distinctly light but manages to be suitably robust to stand up to trail rigours.
Strategically placed stretch panels improve the fit of these shorts, although there’s not much shape to the knees, which leads to a hint of bunching at the back.
You get the standard hip pockets, plus a pouch on the front of each leg. Meanwhile, a webbing belt helps to hold things in place and Velcro tabs at the bottom of the legs stop them riding up.
The Transition includes a removable liner, which Polaris also sell on its own for £20. It’s a functional item, although the Coolmax pad isn’t the most sophisticated around.
We also found the liner legs to be a little on the short side, exposing a bit too much limb to a couple of slightly scratchy seams on the inside of the shell short. These joins did soften a bit after a couple of wears and washes, though.
