Catlike Whisper Plus helmet review£119.95

Distinctive and comfortable

More holes than helmet, this Spanish sieve is a distinctive low-profile piece best suited to slower, hotter riding situations.

With no fewer than 39 round and oval nostril-style vents scooped out of the shell, heat loss is excellent at lower speeds such as when climbing.

Skinny internal ribs and tall exhaust ports mean it sucks an outstanding amount of air through when you pick the pace up too.

The Plus gets a removable peak for bad weather/mountain bike use. The externally compact but rounded shell with deep rear gives a secure, protected feel.

There’s no vision interference though, and it suits a wide range of head shapes. The pads also wick quickly and effectively.

Guy started filling his brain with cycle stats and steaming up bike shop windows back in 1980. He worked the other side of those windows from '89 while getting a degree in “describing broken things covered in mud" (archaeology). Dug historical holes in the ground through the early '90s, then became a pro bike tester in '97. Guy has ridden thousands of bikes and even more components the world over since then and can remember them all in vivid, haunting detail. Can't remember where the car keys are, though.
