First look: Principia Evolve urban bike

By Matthew Cole | Monday, Jul 19, 2010 9.00am

This is the £1,099.99 Evolve Disc urban bike from Danish company Principia. The all-white paintjob and colourful graphics really make it stand out from the pack.

Look deeper and you'll find an aluminium frame and carbon fork, Bengal Helix hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano Tiagra shifting and FSA Omega cranks. There are some nice touches, including the way the cables are routed neatly through the head tube, and mudguards are provided.

Cycling Plus magazine will have a full review of the Evolve in an upcoming issue of the magazine. Give us your first impression of the bike in the comments section below.

  • On the inside of the chainstay it says: "Truth is ever to be found in simplicity and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things"

That's a bit rich being printed on a "HI STEAL ME, I AM A PRETTY AND EXEPENSIVE VELOCIPEDE, DID I FORGET TO MENTION? STEAL ME NOW!" type of bike.

When did 'Urban' replace the word 'Fashion' Should be called "Prinipia Evolve Hipster Bike"

  • Very good looking in a shouty way. Not one I'd want to leave unlocked in the urban environment for very long even with the worlds best lock (or two).

  • Too loud! It might look better in real life, but from where I'm sitting it looks ugly ... far too much white ... looks like its been through a flour mill ...

  • Do they do mens bikes, too?

    ;-)

  • It doesn't seem like the white paint and white components would be great in a dirty, urban environment. I'd go for something a bit darker that won't look so obviously dirty.

  • Let's be honest this is a camp bike.
