British Cycling and Sky have launched Ride Social, a new initiative designed to help people build their own cycling communities. The online system allows riders to create a profile that then enables them to create and join bike rides in their local areas.

Following a rebrand of the old Social Cycling Groups site, including in a new name, logo and style, Ride Social already boasts 50,000 users, with 950 groups organising 3,000 rides.

British Cycling's recreation and partnerships director, Stewart Kellett, said: “We are delighted to have created a place for cyclists of all abilities to make friends, form groups and get out and ride their way. Ride Social is a great addition to our existing ride programmes, Sky Ride Local guided rides and Breeze bike rides for women.”

To celebrate the launch of Ride Social, British Cycling and Sky are offering cycling enthusiasts the chance to win a bike ride with a member of Team Sky.

All you have to do is create a ride on Ride Social that takes place between 14 November, 2014 and 8 February, 2015, invite lots of local cyclists to join you, take a selfie of you and your group out on your ride and share it on Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram with the hashtag #ridesocial – then keep an eye online to see which Team Sky cyclist you'll be joining. The prize ride will take place in spring 2015.
