Police are hunting a bike thief who swiped a Trek Madone at the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle – and they’ve got photos of the suspect riding along The Mall with a sportive number attached to the bike.

The locked bike was stolen from Green Park near Constitution Hill on Saturday 3 August, and the rightful owner did his own online detective work, sifting through official event photos until he spotted the bike.

The Metropolitan Police's Cycle Task Force is now looking into the incident. They are appealing for public help to track down the suspect, who was wearing a striped blue shirt, blue helmet, satchel and sunglasses. The bike stolen was a green Trek Madone 4.9.

PC Charlotte Brierley said: "The theft took place in the middle of a very busy event and we are urging people who were there who may have seen anything to come forward."

Anyone with information should contact PC Brierley or the Cycle Task Force on 07768 928456, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
