Wolf Tooth's CTRL pedals are part of the brand’s new clipless pedal range, CTRL+ALT+DEL, which is taking the challenge to more established brands.

The brand has a history of making flat mountain bike pedals, with the Ripsaw being one of the best I’ve ever used.

However, these new pedals open up the brand to riders who prefer to be locked into their rigs.

This is a segment that is dominated by big brands such as Shimano and Crankbrothers, but Wolf Tooth believes it has done enough to play on their turf.

A trick up the CTRL pedals' sleeve is an adjustable Q-factor, which enables you to choose between 51, 55 and 59mm.

The brand says the CTRL pedals are machined and assembled in the USA, priced at £190 / $219.95.

Trail pedals

The CTRL is the trail variant of the new range, offering greater shoe contact for increased confidence when descending.

This is done via the shoe connecting to the pedal body itself, rather than by a cage surrounding it.

The body of the pedal is machined aluminium, while the axle is stainless steel and shared with the Waveform Pedals.

Stainless steel is also used for the binding mechanism, with the brand claiming they are so durable that they might outlast your bike.

Wolf Tooth is offering the pedals in two colourways, with Black and a retro Ultraviolet Purple the options.

The brand claims the CTRL is lighter and thinner than other trail pedals, making for an exceptionally low stack height.

Wolf Tooth says it designed the pedals with a thin platform to reduce the chance of pedal strikes when cornering or riding over rocks and roots.

It has also included an open centre around the mechanism to shed mud and keep your cleats clipping in smoothly.

Adjustable Q-factor

The adjustable Q-factor determines how far out the pedals sit from your bike.

A wider Q-factor often gives more confidence on the descents, but can sacrifice efficiency when compared to a narrower setup.

The adjustment requires disassembly, but the spacers look easy enough to arrange into the three setup widths.
