The Rolls-Royce of water bottles is 43% more affordable for Amazon Prime Day

CamelBak's Podium Steel water bottle is discounted for a limited time

We all like nice things, but most of us only have limited funds, so splurging on luxuries such as posh bike bottles often has to take a back seat.

I like to buy nice kit, and buy it once, rather than buying inferior equipment and replacing it.

However, a bike bottle with a £40 RRP seems a little frivolous – until you read the spec list.

CamelBak Podium Steel bike bottle £40 £24.99 (save 38%)

CamelBak Podium bottles have a large-capacity and high-flow valve.

I’m not a fan of buying anything I don't need: even if there is a seemingly great product on offer, I often struggle to part with my hard-earned money.

I already own a CamelBak Podium bottle in blue (although my wife swears it’s hers) and I love it, but it’s getting a bit ratty-looking.

The chance to upgrade to a snazzy steel bottle and gain some insulation for keeping my drinks cold on hot rides sounds ideal. Plus it’s metal and metal things are cool.

CamelBak claims the double-wall vacuum insulation will keep liquid cool for 14 hours, which should be enough for all but the longest rides.

How much is it?

The retail price for the insulated model in large 650ml size is £40. That's a hefty chunk of money for something that could easily get lost or damaged, and arguably does the same basic job as a standard cheap bike bottle.

However, in the Prime Day sale there’s less resistance to this premium product from my purse strings because it’s got a 43% discount, dropping the price to £22.99 for the stone-coloured version.

Functional tech

The steel bottle should be more hygienic, as well as more robust, than a traditional plastic bottle.

As with all CamelBak Podium bottles, the big bite valve lid is also lockable, so you don’t have to spill a drop while the bottle is stowed.

When it does need a clean, the Podium’s wide lid opening makes cleaning straightforward. It’s easy to disassemble the squirty lid parts where the mouth-munge can hide, which is great when you want to bung it in the dishwasher.
