British brand Whyte Bikes has slipped onto its website three very nice-looking new bikes that come in various component and wheel size options.

The new Whyte G-180, T-160 and T-140 bikes came onto BikeRadar’s, well, radar by chance when scanning the company’s website this week.

A little further delving reveals some interesting and at times innovative bike and build options among these gravity- and trail-oriented rides.

2021 Whyte G-180: Mullet optional

There are two different versions of the G-180 available: two with 27.5in wheels and two with 29in wheels, each with two build options apiece. The bike is only available in alloy.

After reaching out to Whyte engineer Sam Shucksmith, we have learned that the G-180 is a replacement for the G-170 that uses similar suspension kinematics to its award-winning predecessor, with a little extra anti-squat and 10mm extra suspension travel (Whyte's bike naming follows fork travel, not rear wheel travel, with the G-180 sporting 170mm rear travel and the G-170 160mm).

A slightly longer rear-centre is coupled with extended reach and a slacker head angle.

The 27.5in G-180 features a big 190mm travel fork and, as noted on Whyte’s website, it is designed around a 29er fork meaning you can make it a mullet (29 front, 27.5 rear) by simply changing the lower headset cup and swapping the front wheel for a 29in hoop.

On the G-180 29er, which has two 29in wheels as standard, front travel is 180mm, putting it in the category of heavy-hitting enduro bike.

2021 Whyte T-160: progressive trail riding

Much like the G-180, the T-160 takes inspiration from a predecessor, the S-150, but the rear centre and head angle are stretched out and it gets 10mm extra suspension travel (the T-160 has 150mm rear travel).

This bike is available with 29in wheels only, has an alloy frame and there are two build options.

2021 Whyte T-140: Maximum fun

Whyte says this updated 135mm-travel trail bike is “a versatile all-rounder with big hit capabilities” that optimises its travel for flat-out descending while remaining easy to pedal back up the hill.

As well as slightly increased rear wheel travel, Sam Shucksmith explained the T-140 has a new, more progressive leverage curve coupled with new rear shock damping tunes. This provides improved small bump sensitivity and support.

The T-140 is available with carbon and alloy front triangle options and 27.5in wheels only.
