The 2026 UCI Road Cycling World Championships take place in Montreal, Canada from 20 to 27 September, with courses for the road racing and time trials, and the winners destined to wear the coveted rainbow stripes for the next year.
With 2024 and 2025 men's road world champion Tadej Pogačar injured and out of competition for the rest of 2026, this race is set to be more open than had been expected. Remco Evenepoel might just win both the road race and time trial, as he did at the 2024 Paris Olympics, although he came fifth at the recent GP de Montreal one-day race, having won in Quebec two days earlier.
With her fine form this year, Demi Vollering is the firm favourite to win the women's road race, although it's always possible in both the men's and women's races that there'll be an unexpected winner, as was the case for Canadian rider Magdeleine Vallieres in 2025.
As in previous years, the UCI Gravel World Championships take place on a separate date and location. They won’t be held until 10 October and will take place in Nannup in Western Australia.
How to watch the 2026 Road World Championships – main event schedule
The racing starts with the women's and men's elite time trials, both taking place on Sunday, 20 September.
This year, there are 13 events, including road races and time trials in the men’s and women’s categories across Elite, U23 and Junior age groups, with an additional Team Time Trial Mixed Relay on 22 September.
The final event is the men's elite road race, which takes place on Sunday, 27 September, covering 273.4km and finishing on the Mount Royal circuit in Montreal.
