Whyte releases carbon eMTB with Avinox M2S motor – plus two budget-friendly aluminium MTBs

Aluminium trail bike, big-hitting aluminium enduro bike and carbon 29er eMTB unveiled

Whyte Bicycles

Whyte has unveiled a trio of new bikes: the Sythe, the Syphon and the Karve – with the Karve an eMTB that uses Avinox's hugely powerful M2S motor.

The Syphon is an aluminium 29er trail bike that replaces the T-140. It costs only £2,199 and has an impressive spec.

The Sythe is a 160mm-travel enduro bike with a 170mm fork, set up as a full 29er, but convertible to a mixed wheel-size setup. There are two specs available, priced at £2,199 and £3,199.

The Karve is a carbon electric mountain bike with 160mm of travel and featuring the Avinox M2S motor with 150Nm torque, 1,300Nm power and an 800Wh battery. It has 29in wheels, but can be converted to mixed wheel size. It costs £5,650 or £7,799 depending on spec.

Whyte has discontinued the venerable T-140 and T-130 trail bikes, replacing them with the Syphon S, which is priced at £2,199 / €2,599.

The new Syphon has a 135mm-travel aluminium frame and a 140mm fork. It comes with 29in wheels, but can be run mixed-size, with a 27.5in rear wheel and a different Whyte Shape. It link. The size-Small bike comes with a 27.5in rear wheel and can be converted to a 29er.

The Syphon S has a four-bar rear-suspension linkage with a flip chip to enable low and high settings, and Whyte offers a lifetime warranty on the pivot bearings.

Spec details are sparse, but from the press shots the bike appears to have a Shimano Deore groupset, TRP four-piston brakes and a RockShox Pike fork.

The Sythe is Whyte’s new enduro bike, with a 160mm-travel aluminium frame, 170mm-travel fork and 29in wheels, but it is convertible to a mixed wheel-size setup.

There are two build options on offer, with the Sythe S including a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 fork and Bomber Air shock with external reservoir. The press shots appear to show TRP four-piston brakes and Whyte own-brand cranks. It retails for £2,199 / €2,599.

The Sythe RS has a RockShox Lyrik Ultimate RC2 fork and Super Deluxe Ultimate RC2 shock, SRAM Eagle 1x12 drivetrain and TRP EVO Expert brakes. It's priced at £3,199 / €4,099.

Whyte Karve eMTB

The Karve is the latest bike to adopt the Avinox M2S motor, offering 150Nm torque and 1,300W of power. The front-triangle is carbon and features Whyte’s Quad-Link 4 suspension system.

The Karve is a full 29er, but it is swappable to a mixed wheel-size setup by swapping out the Whyte Shape. It link.

There are two models – the RS, at £5,650 / €6,499 and the RSX, which costs £7,799 / €8,699. The RS features a carbon front triangle and aluminium stays, whereas the RSX features a full-carbon frame including the chainstays.

The RSX also features RideWrap frame protection fitted from the factory, which is a nice touch.

Spec details are sparse, but the press renders show the RS with what may be a RockShox Lyrik fork and Super Deluxe shock, SRAM Maven brakes and SRAM mechanical Transmission.

The RSX press images show what may be a Fox Factory 38 fork and Float X shock, SRAM Maven brakes and DT Swiss 1900 Hybrid wheels.

Both models are available in S, M, L and XL sizes and feature an 800Wh battery and Avinox DPC100 OLED top-tube touchscreen display.

Whyte includes a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and pivot bearings.
