New Scott Addict Gravel has massive 57mm tyre clearance and lightest weight yet – but there's no 32in version

The new Scott Addict Gravel is designed to be more comfortable, more capable and versatile enough for race days and carrying everything you’ll need on an epic adventure. It sports new geometry and new levels of integration courtesy of component partner Syncros.

The original Addict Gravel took Scott's famed aero-race bike template and adapted it to gravel. As first-generation aero-gravel racers go, it was one of the better examples. The new version represents a fresh take on handling geometry, with a more versatile frameset and more compliance.

However, we're surprised that, alongside the announcement of the new Addict Gravel, Scott hasn't revealed a 32in-wheel option. We saw a very-close-to-production prototype of a 32in-wheel Scott gravel bike raced by Cameron Jones at this year's Unbound. Perhaps Scott is waiting on more industry support for the new wheel size, especially with aftermarket parts such as wheels and tyres.

Rather than put more focus on aerodynamics, as its rivals Ridley, Argon 18 and BMC have done with their latest gravel bikes, Scott has opted to take the same route as Giant has with the latest Revolt Advanced SL.

The weight is kept low, with the top-end HMX frame seeing a reduction by 75g to 794g compared to the previous generation. The lower-tier HMF version sees a 25g reduction to 990g.

The complete Addict Gravel Premium weighs 7.8kg (medium), with the £2,400 Gravel 40 tipping the scales at a claimed 8.7kg (medium).

New geometry

The revised frame geometry features 57mm tyre clearances and a host of refinements to improve handling and comfort.

The stack has been increased by 10mm over the previous generation and the reach is 10mm longer, although Scott has shortened the cockpit (stem length) by 10mm to compensate. The bottom bracket has been lowered to accommodate larger tyres and the fork rake has been increased to improve the handling over rougher terrain.

The result is a longer front centre, placing the front wheel further ahead. According to Scott, this improves handling confidence at speed. Even with the upping of the tyre clearance to 57mm (2.25in), Scott has kept the rear chainstays the same length as the Scott Addict road bike at 425mm.

Scott says this will make the Addict Gravel feel familiar to Addict riders, with an emphasis on stable, confident handling. The Addict Gravel comes in seven sizes, from XXS to XXL.

New frame details

To accommodate much larger tyres, Scott has created a new chainstay shape it calls ‘threadlike chainstays’. The chainstays narrow to only 8.5mm thick at the bottom bracket end to allow for ample clearance for larger-volume gravel tyres.

The construction of both carbon framesets, the premium HMX and standard HMF, has been tweaked to provide more compliance. Scott says these very subtle changes – at the most a 5% reduction in stiffness – bring big changes, not only in comfort but also in traction.

The frame has a little more compliance in the right places, enabling the bike to adapt to uneven surfaces better. Where a super-stiff frameset would skip across the surface, Scott says the new Addict will conform, making it more efficient and giving better grip.

The down tube gets a large storage port and the bike includes a Syncros ‘Save the Day’ kit. This houses an inner tube, tyre levers and a mini-pump within a rattle-free pouch.

Accessories included

The Syncros cockpits also hide a welcome secret. In place of standard bar-end plugs, the bar features plug tools containing Allen keys and a tubeless repair kit.

Syncros also offers a range of dedicated frame bags, making use of the integrated bosses on the Addict Gravel frame.

The fork doesn’t feature the usual 'anything' mounts. Instead, Scott and Syncros have developed a combination of inner-surface mounts and new custom mounting brackets to position further back.

According to Scott: “By putting bottles in an optimised location, placing the weight distribution closer to the steering axis, we reduce inertia by 35%. This results in quicker and more linear handling – even when the bike is fully equipped.”

The frame is compatible with the Syncros D-shaped carbon post, which can be paired with Scott's integrated rear light system as seen on the Addict RC.

Up front, a new cockpit features a subtle flare combined with a forward sweep. Syncros says this improves wrist clearance when leaning hard into corners. The reach is reduced to make it easier to switch between the tops and the hoods.

The shifter placement is neutral. Syncros says by introducing a short vertical section before the flare begins, it keeps the shifters in a vertical plane rather than pointing outwards as you find on most gravel bars. The shape of the drop has been tweaked to make for a better fit with your palms, too.
