Shimano has advised Android phone users of its e-Tube Project app not to upgrade their phone to the Beta release of the latest Android operating system, because the app doesn’t yet work correctly with Android 17.

The E-Tube Project app, which was last updated in October 2025, enables users to check status, update firmware, adjust derailleurs and change shift parameters on its Di2 electronic groupsets, as well as fine-tune assistance levels for Shimano electric bike motors.

The second Beta for Android 17 was released on 1 March and, Google says, “focuses on improving performance, boosting energy efficiency and strengthening privacy and security tools”.

In an email sent to users, Shimano says it is working on fixing the compatibility issue with the E-Tube app and that it will inform users via Google Play once it is solved, which it expects to take a few days.

If you're an older phone, you’re probably in the clear – as are iPhone users.
