BMC says its new Teammachine SLR 01 is 16 per cent lighter than before, while maintaining the same stiffness values.
Launched to coincide with Eurobike, and a matter of days before the start of the Tour de France, BMC says the Teammachine SLR 01 is “built for the pure climber”.
Of course, even a modern climbing race bike must account for aerodynamics and BMC says the Teammachine SLR 01 borrows from the aero-optimised Teammachine R 01 for “enhanced efficiency”.

222g lighter

BMC has dropped the weight of the Teammachine SLR 01 frameset by 222g compared to the previous generation through refined tube profiles, the carbon layup and new manufacturing techniques. The climbing bike also has slimmer decals and less paint to save weight.
When compared to the previous Teammachine SLR 01, the frameset is 16 per cent lighter at 1,173g; the seatpost is 27 per cent lighter and the fork is 8 per cent lighter.
When it comes to complete bikes, the top-spec Teammachine SLR 01 ONE weighs a claimed 6.6kg in a size 54cm. This is 100g under the UCI weight limit, which the previous SLR 01 ONE matched.
Aerodynamic efficiency and intelligent engineering

The Teammachine SLR 01 is said to embody BMC’s pursuit of “aerodynamic efficiency and intelligent engineering”.
The Swiss brand says the frame minimises drag while preserving “the clean, race-focused aesthetics riders associated with BMC”.
BMC says it has used Computational Fluid Dynamics, wind-tunnel testing and velodrome testing to refine the Teammachine SLR 01. It has also collaborated with engineers at its Impec Lab and aerodynamic specialists.
Elsewhere, the ICS Carbon Evo cockpit system, with full internal cable routing, aids aerodynamics and contributes to the bike’s “sleek” appearance.
Razor-sharp and intuitive responsiveness

BMC says its latest bike is built on the geometry of the Teachmachine R 01 to offer “razor-sharp handling and intuitive responsiveness” across six sizes, from 47cm to 61cm.
This should translate to confidence on descents and responsiveness in turns, says BMC.
The brand’s Tuned Compliance Concept is said to bring comfort to the climber. This is achieved through the carbon layup and a new Aero Shape seatpost that dampens road vibrations “without dulling ride feedback”.
The bike also sees tyre clearance increase by 2mm to 32mm compared to the previous model, which should improve comfort further, although all available models come with 26mm Pirelli P Zero Race tyres.
