French multi-sports retailer Decathlon is well known outside of the US, with over 1,400 stores in 42 countries, but has only recently stepped a tentative foot into the US market. And it appears that its recent ‘Lab store’ in San Francisco has been a success, because it is expanding its US presence significantly.
Decathlon has announced the opening of a 47,000 square-foot store in spring 2019, which will be located in the East Bay Bridge shopping center in Emeryville, California. Decathlon’s entire line of products will be available in store, with facilities available to test products before you buy.
If you can’t wait that long to get your Decathlon fix, the company has expanded its initial California-only shipping coverage, and all products can now be ordered online and delivered anywhere in the US.
Decathlon is the largest sports retailer in the world and offers equipment for more than 100 sports. Because it designs and produces its own ranges, it is often able to significantly undercut the competition, all whilst creating products that do not skimp on quality.
Decathlon has 25 in-house brands, including the B’Twin bike range that we have regularly been impressed by. The bikes generally offer astoundingly good value for money, with a spec you’d expect from much more expensive bikes.
With everything available from the great value B’Twin Triban 520 road bike to its flagship, full carbon, Dura Ace equipped road racer as well as mountain bikes, kids' bikes and clothing and accessories, Decathlon has everything you need to get riding.
We only see this move as a good thing, with the aggressively priced bikes offering more choice for consumers in the US.

French multi-sports retailer Decathlon heading to the US
Shipping to California with more states to follow
Are you interested in a variety of sports and want one place to have nearly everything you need? If so, good news. While we were sleuthing around on the internet, we discovered the US website for multi-national sporting goods retailer Decathlon.
On the site, Decathlon says that it will soon be shipping to California, with more states to follow.
The retail giant currently has stores in over 30 countries, but none in the US since it closed the four stores that it did have - all of which were in Massachusetts - back in 2006. Decathlon's re-entry into the US market looks to be online only, at least for now.
According to Decathlon leader Michel Aballea, one of the company's goals is to "strive daily to make sport a source of pleasure for everyone". Nearly 70 sports are said to be accounted for, including but not limited to: hiking, snow sports, fishing, swimming, dance, golf, climbing, and even darts and horse riding.
As well as stocking its popular brands, Decathlon also sells its own brands which are exclusive to its stores. Most importantly for cyclists, among its twenty "Passion Brands" is BTwin bicycles. BTwin covers the complete range of two wheelers, from kid's balance bikes to hybrid and city bikes up to all-mountain bikes and full carbon road bikes.
The resounding ethos of BTwin's bikes is one of value where the spec is often viewed as nearly too good to be true.
A full range of cycling gear is also available from Decathlon including BTwin branded helmets, clothing, shoes, parts and accessories.
No set date has been announced for Decathlon's US opening, only that it'll be "soon."
