While people are falling over themselves to put on road sportives and mountain bike enduros, similar style cyclo-cross challenges are a lot thinner on the ground. The organisers of the Salisbury Saxon are looking to buck that trend.

The guys behind it have 20 years' experience of putting on mountain biking and road events. They held their first CX Sportive in January this year in Woodcote, Oxfordshire. The follow-up takes place at Salisbury Racecourse on 20 November.

Riders will have a choice of 40km (£14), 60km (£16) and 80km (£17) routes which mix back roads (60%) with byways (25%), plus a few short but tough off-road sections on bridleways (10%) and singletrack (5%).

It's up to you what type of bike you bring. The event will feature all the aspects of typical road sportives, including route marking, feed stations and timing. For more information and to enter, visit the event website.
