The Giro d’Italia has announced a collaboration with Fortnite, enabling you to visit eight official stages of the race in the game.
The popular free-to-play battle royale game is known for its build and survival mechanics, with the goal of this collaboration being to transform the Fortnite experience into a true stage race that replicates the dynamics of the Giro.
Players will compete for the best time across multiple stages, all the way to claiming the Giro d’Italia Trophy.
Despite the graphics looking Zwift-esque, players don't control their characters with a smart trainer – instead, it is played like the regular video game.

It’s the first time bicycles have been introduced as a mode of transportation in the game, with the Giro’s official bike supplier, De Rosa, represented.

A custom-built map has been designed featuring eight official stage locations: Catanzaro, Naples, the Blockhaus summit in Abruzzo, Viareggio, Aosta, Milan, Gemona del Friuli, and, for the grand finale, Rome, which is the finishing line of this year’s 109th edition of the race.

The Giro's press release says: “The initiative is the result of a collaboration between RCS Sport and NOVO Esports – an Italian leader on the international competitive gaming scene – leveraging an increasingly young and diverse audience while tapping into Fortnite’s ecosystem of over 650 million registered users worldwide to generate integrated online and offline engagement.”
This collaboration will bring the Giro to around 650 million registered Fortnite players, with the hope that a younger generation will engage with cycling in its wake.
