Cervélo have done it, so have Cannondale, and now Olympia are the latest frame-builders to join the sub-900g frameset club. The Italian company have announced a feathery light 849g frame – named the 849 – as part of their new range.
The frameset uses a tapered (1 1/8in to 1 1/2in) head tube for plenty of rigidity at the front, and the frame takes a sturdy BB86 bottom bracket. Various builds will be available, ranging from 11-speed Shimano Ultegra to Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 11-speed.
The Shimano Ultegra build shown above right, with Shimano RS21 wheels, costs £3,392, though the "sky's the limit" for what's possible according to Olympia, and their British importers claim a customer has ordered a bike costing £12,500. US prices are to be announced.
Five sizes are on offer and the 849g claimed weight is for a small size (49cm centre to top seat tube). Three sizes – small, medium and large – are available in the UK now. XS and XL models will be available in Britain shortly, BikeRadar have been told.
