BikeRadar recently received a set of aero wheels from US company Rolf Prima. The Vigor Alpha is the brand's answer to an alloy aero wheelset, dropping in at a claimed 1,450g (635g front/815g rear) and retailing at £999/US$1,299.
The Vigor Alpha uses a low spoke count, with just 14 bladed spokes up front and 16 at the rear. The spokes are organised in Rolf Prima's signature paired arrangement, claimed to equalise forces that would normally pull low spoke count wheels out of true. The clincher rims are 22mm wide and 33mm deep, offering a profile with both aerodynamic benefit and high levels of stiffness.
The rear hub uses an unusually large flange on the non-driveside, to transmit torque more evenly across both flanges of the rear hub. There's also a titanium freehub body suitable for all major 10- or 11-speed cassettes. Titanium quick-release skewers are also included.
We'll be putting the wheels through their paces, so stay tuned to BikeRadar for a full review. Meanwhile, for more information see the Rolf Prima website.
