Strava simplifies activity tracking and makes it ‘more intuitive’

Update designed to give users a more dynamic and interactive experience

Strava will release a redesigned activity recording interface for its mobile app this summer for a simplified experience with smarter maps and real-time updates.

“The new interface streamlines sport selection and navigation to help users record activities and track progress all in one place on their mobile device,” says Strava

It follows the company’s 2024 Year in Sport Trend Report, which found that nearly three quarters of Strava users record activities in its app, despite the popularity of devices such as smartwatches

Strava says the ‘reimagined’ Record feature is “designed to provide users with a more dynamic and interactive experience within the Strava mobile app. Beginning later this summer, it will also enable users to follow their activity on an intuitive, easy-to-follow map, with activity stats that update in real-time while moving.”

What features will the update include?

Strava says the Record update will have the following features:

  • Enhanced navigation powered by the recently updated Map Rendering Engine to bring enhanced details to the map and routing function.
  • Segments will be easier to find, follow and complete.
  • Stats and maps will be visible simultaneously during your activity.
  • Real-time splits to help you see how long it is taking you to complete a specific distance. Strava says “users can see their workout splits update in real-time as they move to help facilitate smarter training.”
  • Live laps will be added to the new Record feature later, so you can track and analyse activities by marking laps during an activity.

Extra features for Strava subscribers

Strava says subscribers will get more out of its Record update. They will be able to unlock map layers, such as the Winter Map styles, 3D Terrain and Heatmaps

This update is available from today for Android users and on iOS in the coming weeks.
