The intruder who jumped the security barriers and was tackled by a police officer after attempting to cycle across the finish line at the end of Stage 17 of the 2025 Tour de France has been handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence, according to reports.
The 31-year-old was held in police custody before being brought before the Valence prosecutor’s office today and sentenced in a preliminary admission of guilt, according to Le Dauphiné Libéré.
The man was accused of entering a sports competition area, disrupting the competition, refusing to comply and “assaulting a person in a position of public authority.”
Le Dauphiné Libéré reports that, in addition to his custodial sentence, he was also fined €500 and banned from entering a sports venue for five years.
Additionally, the man was ordered to pay €500 in damages to the victimised civil servant.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the man had already been convicted three times before.
A video revealed how a Tour de France official attempted to stop the cyclist before an officer from Compagnies Republicaines de Securite (CRS), a specialised unit within the French National Police, shoulder-barged him to the ground.
The incident happened moments before Jonathan Milan sprinted to win the stage.
