The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced that the UCI eMTB Cross-country World Cup will not take place in 2026.
The series launched in 2021, and is organised by the World e-Bike Series (WES), but the UCI says it “did not meet the expected international growth objectives”.
“Given the outlook for the coming years and the evolution of the various mountain bike formats, the UCI wishes to conduct a review of e-mountain bike to enable different stakeholders to agree on the next steps for the development of the discipline,” the UCI said in a statement.
The UCI said the eMTB World Cup has “played a key role in structuring the format internationally” and provided an opportunity for manufacturers to promote their electric mountain bikes.
“Discussions are ongoing with the different stakeholders to identify the best opportunities to advance the development of e-mountain bike and define its next steps on the international stage,” the UCI said.
The electric mountain bike cross-country discipline will remain part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.
The 2026 Championships will take place in Val di Sole, Italy, from 26 to 30 August.
