Specialized's SL Expert jersey is designed to help keep you cool and dry when pushing hard or riding in warm weather.
Constructed from a smooth, light Lycra on the front and a more breathable, wicking mesh-textured Lycra on the back and underarms, the jersey is effective in regulating temperature in a range of conditions.
The fabric itself feels good against the skin; soft, silky but with good wicking properties, so it doesn't feel sticky when it gets wet or sweaty. On hot rides, it channeled sweat away from the skin and the evaporation of the liquid from the jersey surface has a cooling effect.
SL Expert denotes that this jersey is part of Specialized's more race-focussed range, while its RBX range of kit is designed for long-distance focussed riding and has a more generous cut.
The jersey is form-fitting and the sleeves sit around the mid/upper arm. The cuff is cut so that it doesn't squeeze or squidge the upper arm and it sits comfortably in place without restricting movement.
However, I found that the full-length zip didn't sit completely flat against my front. I am, admittedly, curvy in the chest department, but going up a size would probably resolve this issue. Smaller-chested riders are unlikely to experience this issue though.
The length of the jersey is good, reaching down to hip level, and it has silicone gripper dots on the rear dropped hem which help keep the jersey in place when the pockets are heavily laden.
Talking of pockets, there are three at the rear of the jersey. While there is no zipped valuables pocket, one of those three pockets does have a mesh flap that helps keep larger items secure, plus a hole so it's possible to run a race radio cable through the jersey up to the neckline.
The colour is spectacular, eye-catching and fun, but won't be to everyone's taste. There is also a blue/turquoise version if reds and pinks aren't your bag.
