RockShox Lyrik 2 Step Air (08) | $1100
BikeRadar verdict
"Great potential, but very high price and still rebuilding its reliability rating"
The most expensive single-crown, long-travel fork we've tested recently, the Lyrik 2 Step still has a lot to prove. The lower end, with its 35mm stanchions, is sound: decent stiffness and weight, and Maxle screw-through axle convenience.
The basic air stroke isn’t as nice as the coil, but it’s smooth without being too linear and the Mission Control low speed/high speed/platform compression damping is great if you know what you’re doing.
The ‘palm-slap-and-twist’ move needed to engage the Floodgate is tricky and the lurch from 160mm to 115mm (6.3in-4.5in) travel is too extreme. The 2 Step also suffered a few problems last year – SRAM have detailed their fixes, but we’re reserving judgement on reliability, which makes the price harder to swallow.
