"Potentially smooth, stiff and light, but over linearity makes it setup-dependent"

By Guy Kesteven, Mountain Biking UK

Magura’s Thor is a totally new fork that we’re already seeing a lot of. It can take a real hammering, but only if you set it up right.

With a Maxle 20mm screw-through bottom end, 32mm stanchions and Magura’s trademark twin brace design, the Thor is impressively stiff when it comes to turning. It’s not heavy either and it’s very plush and sensitive.

The Albert Select damping allows broad compression tuning too, letting you adjust the level of platform and turn it on and off with a 90-degree twist of the lever on top of the right leg.

The sweet spot between no small bump movement and too much big hit/ braking dive is a very fine line, though, due to the fork's linear feel.

Frequent top-out, excessive guideline pressures, fragile remote levers and awkward to operate 100-140mm travel adjust make initial setup and everyday life trying too. Magura reliability is very good otherwise.

This is the best fork I have used, it completely outclasses the Fox Talas 08 it replaces. The manual as to how to set this fork up is not clear, you simple have to depress the remote lever and compress the fork a few times during adding pressure, this adds air to the negative chamber.

Mine, without the albert Select has almost no fork dive and still has great small bump compliance. Its a great fork and is talked about highly on MTBR by other users.

I simply don't think Ian set the fork up correctly, this mistake had been made by a few users but once corrected they have found the fork to be really good!
