Selle Royal Ergogel Mens Relaxed Saddle | £34.99
BikeRadar verdict
"Ideal for town bikes that you can ride in your everyday clothes"
You can look like a weirdo if you wear Lycra or Ronhill Bikesters for utility cycling which also involves being off the bike - eg, sitting in a pub, pushing a trolley in Tesco...
Conversely, jeans, narrow saddles and a Y chromosome add up to soreness and/or numbness. This utility saddle takes the pressure off seam-garrotted soft bits and puts it on your sit bones instead. It's not so much that it's a holey saddle, although there is a covered hole in the plastic chassis, as that the shape as a whole is better.
The central saddle area is 'scooped out', while the back has two sit-bone bumps (a bit like a Rido saddle). Since it's gel-padded as well, it's more comfortable than the Rido for upright utility riding. Of the three models of Ergogel saddle (a fourth, racier one is on the way), this is the widest and heaviest. Frankly, I don't care. It's the best utility bike saddle I've ever used. There are enough ball aches in day-to-day life without suffering them on a bike. There's a women's version of this saddle too.
