The new Bosch Performance Line PX electric bike motor drive unit is said to cater for “adventurous riders seeking a powerful yet natural riding experience”.

On display at Eurobike, Bosch says the drive unit is for touring and bikepacking trips

Bosch’s public relations manager Jens Weller says: “It has some really nice features for people who like trekking bikes and extended trips on weekends but want some performance for this.”

“It's now possible from July to extend the power and the torque via the Bosch Flow app up to 90Nmeters, while power can go up to 700 watts, and you have the possibility of 400 per cent support,” adds Weller.

While trekking bikes are less common in the UK, they are popular in Bosch’s home country. “In Germany, the market is quite big. E-trekking bikes are around 30 per cent of the ebikes in this market,” says Weller.

The Performance Line PX ebike motor weighs approximately 2.9kg and has smart sensor technology that responds precisely to pedal input.

“It also detects start-up situations and provides an extra boost, when required. Smart functions such as the walk assistance or hill start assist make handling easier when starting uphill or on steeper terrain – especially useful when carrying heavy gear,” says Bosch.

You can also customise the performance values of the Performance Line PX via Bosch’s app, with higher performance leading to reduced battery life and more wear.

But you still might want to do this for tougher terrain, before switching back to less torque for flatter rides.

The motor provides assistance up to 25kph before the gearbox ‘decouples’ the motor and you can pedal your ebike with little resistance.

Elsewhere, the eShift system automatically changes gear for you based on cadence to ensure smoother cycling and less wear.

“eShift with automatic shifting is available with Enviolo and TRP systems, and is now also offered with Shimano shifting systems,” says Bosch.

The Performance Line PX comes with Bosch’s PowerTube 540 battery, which offers more range with the same weight as its PowerTube 500 model. It is also available with the PowerMore 250 range extender.

ABS braking

The Performance Line PX sees Bosch expand its ABS braking, which now supports Shimano, TRP and Magura brakes. Bosch says the ABS will provide support when riding with heavily loaded bikes or on slippy terrain.

Weller says: “For the ABS brakes different parameters are measured. For instance, speed at the front and the rear wheels, and, yeah, the parameters are compared.

“As soon as the system recognises any irregularities, the braking pressure is regulated. On the front wheel we have an anti-blocking function, and on the rear wheel we have a function which limits the rear wheel rising so you can’t fall over the handlebar.”

More motor updates from Bosch

The new system sits between Bosch’s CX and Performance lines, which have also been improved for 2026.

According to Bosch, they now deliver “more torque, improved performance, and compatibility, with a newly developed battery, extending range and boosting efficiency for both everyday and high-speed riding.”
