Chasing down the weird and the wonderful at any bike show is always good fun, but the Taipei International Cycle Show is in a league of its own.
Finding myself towards the end of an aisle, I spotted this classically styled electric bike, complete with lugs that would make Ernesto Colnago proud.

Made by Allotec, the bike can be equipped with a choice of electric bike motors, including those from Shimano and Bosch, with the battery supposedly fitted externally to the frame.

You can select this retro-inspired electric road bike in an array of colours, and there’s even external cable routing to keep things easy to work on.

While certainly niche, the Allotec doesn’t sit alone as being a lugged electric bike, with Atherton’s upcoming S.170E also using the technique, admittedly with some modernisation.
Away from the novelty factor of the Allotec, the construction is very neat, and it’s nice to see a bike take inspiration from times gone by.
