An excellent, easily repairable all-round aero wheelset

Using a narrow, 18mm wide and 31mm deep rim, Reynolds have aimed the Solitudes at the all-round performance market. They're handbuilt with 20 conventional shouldered, round DT spokes up front and 24 at the rear, crossed twice on the drive side and radial on the other, fastened by internal spoke nipples.

The slim gauge spokes go some way to subduing the feel of the stiff rims. The small flanges of the ultra low profile front hub also aid compliance, and the rear hub flanges are differential, larger on the drive side for added strength. Both hubs have very positive feeling quick-release levers.

Out on the road the Solitudes feel quick, responding willingly to any acceleration, and the light aero rims help to keep them up to speed. Over the worst roads the wheels felt composed and reasonably comfortable, which was a surprise considering their fairly deep rims, and makes them suitable for racing and training alike.
