If you like to make your bike your own, stand out from the crowd, or just prefer to have the specs you want rather than the standard ones supplied, then having a custom build is the way forward. Specialized UK is now offering this service in house for the Stumpjumper and Enduro, two of its most popular mountain bike platforms.

The bike build programme has been available in the US for some time and has now arrived in the UK. If you're in the market for a Stumpjumper or Enduro this gives you the chance to choose the colour and build you like.

Both options are based around carbon Stumpjumper and Enduro frames, and once you've decided which, the bike design fun can begin.

Pick your parts

While there is a fair amount of choice, your options aren't completely unlimited.

Component package options include SRAM X01 Eagle (the Gold package) or SRAM GX Eagle (the Silver package). There are three quality wheel options: Specialized's own Roval weels in either the Traverse 38 SL Carbon, Traverse SL Carbon or Traverse Alloy available in 650b or 29er, plus a number of fork and shock options from Fox and Öhlins.

In practice, this means you can build a bike up to suit your budget, in the colour and wheelsize options you like.

Currently, the UK bike builder doesn't have quite the same range as the US version, which includes coil shock options. We've contacted Specialized to ask if this will change in the future.

Ride the rainbow

Several of the colourways are completely unique to the bike builder programme.

There are six gloss colour choices for the Stumpjumper: carbon/charcoal, acid kiwi/black, flow red/team yellow, east sierras/carbon/oak green, rocket red/satin acid blue and chameleon/black

The Enduro has six colour options in a mixture of satin and gloss: satin army green/team yellow, gloss tarmac black/flake silver/satin carbon, satin cool grey/rocket red, gloss cosmic flake/teal tint, gloss mint/limón and gloss acid red/mint.

Specialized has a bike builder page where you can play with components and colours to your heart's content.

How to get your mitts on one

To build your custom bike, you can either work it out online using the bike builder, then bring your design into a Specialized retailer to order, or just nip into a retailer and do the designing and ordering in store.

Specialized says that bikes ordered from the custom build programme should be ready within 60 days of the order being confirmed.

Build options

Having had a bit of a play ourselves, we've worked out that the top whack package for either the Stumpjumper or Enduro, complete with SRAM X01 Eagle, Ohlins suspension and carbon Roval Traverse wheels comes in at £6,800.

At the other other end of the scale, the cheapest build with GX Eagle, alloy Roval Traverse wheels and Fox RC/RT suspension comes in at £4,450.
