Pinarello has expanded its range of time trial bikes to four models with the introduction of the FT1 Triathlon Carbon 30HM12K. As the name suggests, it's aimed at triathletes but it will appeal to conventional time trialists.
The frame is built from 30HM12K carbon fibre, resulting in a unit that Pinarello claims weighs 1400g for a 49 cm model. By comparison, this is 250g heavier than its top of the range Montello FM1 frame. Pinarello also claims the FT1 is "light and comfortable" making it suitable for long distance time trialling such as the 180km bike leg of an Ironman triathlon.
The FT1 is available in three colours (blue, black and red) and four sizes: 46, 49, 53 and 57cm. The frame has been designed with an even steeper seat angle than the FM1 Montello: 76° compared to 74.5°, although the head angle is the same at 73°. A Pinarello 1 1/8" FP8 fork, also made from 30HM12K carbon fibre, completes the frameset, which sells for around €2400/£1850.
The rest of the bike is specced with a mix of Shimano Ultegra (brakes, gears, chain) and MOst (bottom bracket, crankset, alloy handlebars, saddle and alloy wheels with Continental Ultra Sport tyres), with an overall weight less than 9kg. The lack of top end kit helps keep the price down, with this build costing in the region of €3300/£2500.
