The Critérium du Dauphiné is taking place all of this week, finishing on Sunday 16 June. Tomorrow the peloton heads into the mountainous stage 7 from Saint-Genix-les-Villages towards the Seven Laux-Pipay. In its 71st year, it’s being billed as one of the final showdowns before the Tour de France.

The Critérium du Dauphiné (and Tour de Suisse) should give us a good indication of who’s in the running for the yellow jersey at the Tour de France. Find out how to watch the action live here.

The 2019 Critérium du Dauphiné

The 2019 Critérium du Daupiné will cover 1,202.1km of riding over eight stages between 9 and 16 June.

The Dauphiné has always pitched itself as a litmus test for who is in contention for the Tour de France, so it will be interesting to see how riders perform over the course of this year’s race.

This year we’ll see the likes of Chris Froome, Romain Bardet, Thibaut Pinot, Richie Porte, Jakob Fuglsang, Adam Yates, Julian Alaphilippe and Daniel Martin battling it out on somewhat unaccustomed mountain roads.

This year, the race departs from the French region of Cantal for the first time, and follows a 1,200km route towards the Swiss ski resort of Champéry where it culminates on 16 June.

The new departure location is a bit of a curve-ball that will see riders tackling some serious climbs over the first stage, climbing Puy Mary before completing a particularly bumpy circuit.

The following days will be a mixture of undulating roads and straight sprints, putting each and every rider to the test.

We expect to see the favourites trying to break away from each other during the time-trial in Roanne during Stage 4.
